Assistance League® of Northern Virginia

Meeting the basic needs of children in low-income schools we serve

Celebrating 20 Years

We continue to celebrate our 20th Anniversary of community service with a series of monthly wish lists. As we head into June we’re thinking about many children who may not even have their own toothbrush or toothpaste; much less a proper bedtime routine to provide that little additional comfort at the end of the day. Your generosity can change this reality for many young children and help them get the supplies and learning they need to get an early start on a healthy bedtime routine. By visiting https://tiny.alnv.org/HugsItems, you’ll be able to select and send books and toothbrushes that we’ll then deliver to kindergarten-aged children at the Title 1 schools we serve as part of our Bedtime Hugs program. To make sure it gets to the right place in a timely fashion, please remember to select Assistance League of Northern Virginia as the shipping address! Thank you for your invaluable contribution to a child’s healthy journey.

Got Sneakers (you’re not using)? Send them our way!

For more than two years, we’ve been collecting new and gently used athletic shoes as a fundraising program in partnership with GotSneakers.com, which compensates nonprofit organizations based on the quality and condition of the sneakers they collect.  Gently worn and new shoes are provided to people who could not otherwise afford quality sneakers.  Shoes that are not suitable for reuse are recycled into paving materials for resurfacing playgrounds and running tracks, and are kept out of landfills.

We encourage businesses and organizations to collect sneakers for us. We have many donation collection points throughout the area, including businesses and individuals.  For more info on the on the types of athletic shoes we can accept and where you can drop off your sneakers, check our Got Sneakers activity page.\

Sweet Dreams

Can you imagine having to share a toothbrush with your brother or sister?  Or not being able to brush regularly because your family can’t afford toothpaste?  Sadly, children in low-income families are often in need of toothbrushes and toothpaste because their families lack resources to provide these basic items that are essential for good oral […]

MANY Thanks!

The planning committee for our Literary Luncheon and Fundraiser met recently to celebrate the successes of that event and to lay the groundwork for an even more impactful gathering next year. We owe a debt of gratitude to our two corporate sponsors, NOVEC (Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative) and Northwest Federal Credit Union, for their generous contributions. Their […]

Summer Reads!
